How To Help:
...Is not a national program. It is a single organization that helps out elementary schools in West Seattle/South Park. If you would like to receive information on how you too could start a program such as "PMIFK" in your area, please contact us at pencilmeinforkids@gmail.com .
We know the need is out there, we just need people like you to reach out and provide it for the kids in your area. Over the past years, we have provided not only the opportunity for kids to go to school with the much needed supplies, but have also reinforced the need to volunteer in a community.
As an ALL VOLUNTEER organization, we have been able to provide volunteer hours (required) for local high school kids, as well as fulfill job requirements for advancement of employees at local businesses, who encourage community service as part of their job descriptions.
Our Mission:
We want to make sure EVERY child goes to school
with basic school supplies!

Thanks to donations received...
In 2008, we were able to supply nearly
$13,000 worth of supplies!
What a great year for "PMIFK"! We had so many fund raisers and had cash donations that helped tremendously!! The last week of August, over $13,000 worth of supplies we sorted and delivered to Sanislo for pick-up by the Family Support Workers from Gatewood, Alki, Arbor Heights, Roxhill, Cooper, West Seattle Elementary, Concord, and Pathfinder. There were over 750 scissors, 5,000 pencils, 700 washable markers, 600 pee chees, 1000 boxes of crayons, and many, many mored supplies to help kids in our area to have the basics for back-to-school.
THANK YOU...THANK YOU...THANK YOU!
What a difference you have made in so many kids lives!
"Pencil me in for Kids" was featured this year in an
Editorial in The Seattle Times on Tuesday August 26th,
and also in posts on The West Seattle Blog

Beginning in January, we will start acquiring supplies
for the school year 2010-2011.
Below is a list of items to get us started.
We list them at this time of year so that hopefully you can take advantage of the sales at local stores. If you have a contact at a supply store, have them get in touch with us. Bulk orders tend to be more cost effective, and since we need large quantities of supplies, we would like to get the most "bang-for-our-buck".
(Items listed in red are in the most demand.)
#2 pencils
composition notebooks (wide-ruled)
pencil boxes/pouches
washable markers (large-tip -boxes of 8)
glue sticks
spiral notebooks
"safe" scissors
colored pencils (12 pack)
ball-point pens (blue/black ink)
erasers/rulers
"pee-chee" style folders
3-ring binders
crayons (box of 24)
notebook dividers/paper(100 sheet)
generic backpacks (NEW)
With donations of cash & supplies...we were able to provide $12000+ worth of school supplies for the 2009-2010 school year!
We would again like to thank “Point Hope Foundation” for their generous supply donations, West Seattle Thriftway for their BBQ’s (& last minute BACKPACK donations!), Staples at Westwood for their more than generous deep discounted supplies, and all of our other local supporters...including YOU! All supplies were sorted & delivered to the schools before the first day of school.
